One night, Ambo called his wife Iska. Yet, his wife did not respond to him, and so he thought that she is probably becoming deaf because she is getting old.
Ambo slightly approached Iska and asked, “Honey, can you hear me?”
Still, Iska did not respond and so, Ambo went nearer his wife and spoke right behind her ears, “Honey, can you hear me?”
Iska replied, “I said yes, Ambo! I’ve answered you several times already. What’s wrong with you?
In Matthew 13:13-16, Jesus once mentioned that there are many people who cannot hear not because they are deaf, but because of their calloused hearts. Having calloused hearts, they fail to understand the will and directions of the Lord, and they miss the blessings that God intend them to receive.
Therefore, we should be very careful with things that enter our hearts, because we may never know that they can pollute us and we may become deaf to the voice of the Lord. Proverbs 4:23 tells us, 23 Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
