Free For Responsibility
“So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” Galatians 5:1 NLT
Being free from responsibility can be effortless; we just go with the flow. When we are in the world, we don’t need to exert effort to do the ways of the world. It’s very natural to worldly people.
People saw this freedom in Jesus of Nazareth. “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.”
Freedom in Christ comes from obedience to God. To be free is to be able to move beyond oneself and into the risk to love, to give oneself freely. Nelson Mandela said, “to be free is to not merely cast off chains, but to live in a way that enhances the freedom of others.” Real freedom is best realized when we move from a self-serving heart to a serving heart.
Christ has set us free to enjoy our responsibility, so that through our liberty others may be set free.
