Pure and undefiled religion means practicing God’s Word in one’s life.
James 1:26-27 (NKJV)
26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. 27Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
To simplify, pure and undefiled religion is practice in the following manner:
- Conversation – control our tongues. It reveals the overflowing content of our hearts (Matthew 12:34).
- Conduct – be concerned not only with one’s self but also with others (Matthew 25:34-40).
- Character – unspotted from the world (James 4:4 and Romans 12:1-2).
This is pure religion.
