Wouldn’t it be easier if you can control things in your life? Like having a remote control that can control people’s actions and reactions toward you. You could even rewind back to relive happy moments, undo your mistakes and skip situations to avoid pain and failure. Just like me, you would probably want to push the fast forward button to avoid all the stress and frustration of finding out your purpose in life and just see what kind of person you would be. Sounds like a good life to have, right? Sadly, these things only happen in the movies.

Well, I have great news for you! Someone is already holding the remote. The last time I checked, God is in control.

I witnessed how He controlled the traffic as I got the last seat of the van on a Monday morning rush. How He woke me up on time from a good night sleep after 9 consecutive late time-ins. How He counted my last coins so that I could pay the exact amount for a seven-peso ride. How He computed for a 45-day allowance even though I only budgeted for a 15-day survival. How He gave me the courage to try the CPA board exam again after failing it twice. How He fixed my lost data a day before the exam. How He guided me and cheered me on the day of the exam. How He gave me peace of mind the day after. How He comforted me the day after I received the results. How He allowed me to experience pain and raised me up so that I can worship Him in my brokenness.

If things were only in my control, I would have chosen to pass the board exam on my first try. I would choose to work with big accounting firms. I would have the legitimacy of an accountant. I wouldn’t need to go through all the stress and pain again. But they’re not in my control.

The Bible says in Hebrews 6: 9-12 (MSG), “I’m sure that won’t happen to you, friends. I have better things in mind for you—salvation things! God doesn’t miss anything. He knows perfectly well all the love you’ve shown him by helping needy Christians, and that you keep at it. And now I want each of you to extend that same intensity toward a full-bodied hope, and keep at it till the finish. Don’t drag your feet. Be like those who stay the course with committed faith and then get everything promised to them.

Even if I failed for the third time, it doesn’t disregard the fact that God is still in control over my life. And that He has a plan, a reason for allowing me to experience all these uncertainties, failures and pains. He is letting me experience all these because He wants to show me how He is moving mightily in my life, in the small things and the big things. He is preparing me for a plan far greater than I could ever come up with. He is showing me how He is more glorified when people see the Master at work in me than when I try to present a ‘finished’ work for Him.  He is asking me to trust Him and to fully rely on Him.

Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” (Psalms 46: 10)

How about you? Are you still trying to take control? Remember that HE WAS, IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE IN CONTROL. Let go and glorify God in ALL seasons of your life!
