In my early years in the ministry, the more I see growth, the more I see opportunities to make it grow even more. But whenever I had something new in mind, and thought about the hard work to get it done, somehow, I felt exhausted. Upon meditating, I was actually complaining about not having rest at all. Until, I remembered what happened to King David when he rested from battle–he fell into sin that grew worst to the point of murdering a faithful married soldier.
If I rest from doing God’s work, I might be prone to sin that I would regret later. I read about what God said to Moses, when he led Israel to the Promised Land:
Exodus 33:14 (NIV)
14 the Lord replied, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
This is the rest that we need–that we faithfully serve and experience the presence of God. Our regular days off may be filled with ministerial works, but we must remember that whenever we do God’s work, His presence goes with us, too.
