Character is something that we strongly hold inside us. More importantly, it is something that God always sees in us. However, we tend to settle for anything less than a Christ-like character that’s why we miss the essence of spiritual growth. If we are truly living a life of faith, we will strive to build good Christian character.
2 Peter 1:5-8 (ESV)
5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Having a Christ-like character requires constant effort. It is the most important asset we have because it is the thing we’ll take with us into eternity. Jesus made it quite clear in His Word that rewards in Heaven will be based on the character we develop and demonstrate here on earth.
