A friend once posted a video in Facebook saying, “Please avoid attachment, kung wala pang commitment.” (If you want to watch the video, please read until the end.)
Insightful words, right? It is so easy to detach from something or someone when there is no commitment.
The same goes with our Christian lives. Do we value the commitment that we have made to God? Or is it so easy for us to detach from Him? Let me share to you the commitment of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego when they were threatened by the king to give up worshiping God in exchange for their lives.
In Daniel 3:17-18, the three said:
“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But EVEN IF he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”
What a commitment! I like the words, “EVEN IF”. Do you honor your commitment to God…
– EVEN IF the benefits are gone?
– EVEN IF better opportunities come?
– EVEN IF it hurts?
– EVEN IF your life is at stake?
Let us learn this kind of commitment from Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego — NOTHING can make them stop worshiping the living God, EVEN IF it will cost them their lives. Let our everyday decision be anchored towards this great purpose — to worship God with our lives.
