Hello everyone! I‘m Janet Pacleb and I’m a fulltime church volunteer and a Stage Manager of Whitelight Creative Productions and I’m ‘legally blind’.
I have a very poor eyesight. I have a 20/450 vision on both eyes, meaning what people with a normal vision can see 450 feet away, I can only see it 20 feet away. Without my eyeglasses or contact lens, I won’t be able to recognize faces, nor ride a jeep or a bus because I can’t read the signage, I even failed my math class because I can’t read well the numbers on the board. It gives me headache and makes me dizzy to the point of being nauseated. Everything around me is blurry.
However, this poor eyesight became God’s tool and I was reminded of the story of Bartimaeus found in Mark 10:46-52 (MSG)
…As Jesus was leaving town, trailed by his disciples and a parade of people, a blind beggar by the name of Bartimaeus, son of Timaeus, was sitting alongside the road. When he heard that Jesus the Nazarene was passing by, he began to cry out, “Son of David, Jesus! Mercy, have mercy on me!” Many tried to hush him up, but he yelled all the louder, “Son of David! Mercy, have mercy on me!”
Jesus stopped in his tracks. “Call him over.”
They called him. “It’s your lucky day! Get up! He’s calling you to come!” Throwing off his coat, he was on his feet at once and came to Jesus.
Jesus said, “What can I do for you?”
The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”
“On your way,” said Jesus. “Your faith has saved and healed you.”
In that very instant he recovered his sight and followed Jesus down the road.
Even though I’m in the ministry, I know that I’m blinded with a lot of things – financial problem, peer pressure, depression because my family is away from me, lust, procrastination and even going with the flow of this world. My life keeps running and running in the same situation I can’t get out of the circle until I get tired of it. I started to question a lot of things. I asked God to give me in detail – What is the meaning of my life? What can I do more with my life? Where can I go beyond? More than what I do in the ministry, more than my skills and talents that God has given me, what is my specific purpose?
In the middle of my questions and my quest for answers, a very unusual situation happened. The Director of the hospital where I am working, gave me a piece of paper and instructed to ponder on the note and take time dwell on it. The paper she gave me is written the story of Bartimaeus. I know I’ve read it a lot of times but I’ve never felt it so touching and personal when I read it – as if God is asking me the questions He said to Bartimaeus.
Jesus said, “What can I do for you, Janet?”
Blind Janet said, “Lord, I want to see. I want to see and seek more of you, Lord. I want to see more of your goodness. I want to see your wonderful plans for me. I want to see what you can see in me.”
Jesus said. “Your faith has saved and healed you.”
In that very instant she recovered her sight and followed Jesus…
From then on, everything is clear to me – I live to glorify God all the days of my life and to dwell in His house forever!
I could have just thank God for bringing back my sight, but because of His goodness and His love for me, I decided to follow him. I quit my job and took a big leap of faith and decided to go on full-time serving Him in His house. I never felt such joy in my heart.
If Jesus would ask you the question, “What can I do for you?”
What will you say to him?
