I’ve been a guitarist of Church of God Worship Department since 2007. It is a standard operating procedure of every guitarist to make sure his guitar is fully functional and in perfect intonation. Just like any other professional in their respective crafts, using a faulty or a broken tool can be really stressful and problematic. A quality instrument is a huge help in giving my best technically and spiritually. Ten years of being a musician gave me a vast experience with different guitars – and a broken guitar is not an exception.
The connection between a guitarist and his guitar is real. I could compare my old self to a guitar ready to be thrown away in the trash or to be used as firewood. My life was once like that of a broken guitar; an instrument that lost its purpose. Out of tune, rusty, broken strings, twisted neck, crooked frets, cracked body, missing parts, and sitting in the corner collecting dust – I was good for nothing. Then God came and rescued me. I surrendered it all and He became an expert craftsman, a luthier, and an excellent musician to me. He picked me up, cleansed me, fixed me, repaired me, and restored me.
Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life burgeons! Look at it! ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 MSG)
He renewed me and gave me a new purpose. He tuned my heart to His heart and now all I can do is to stand with a guitar in my hand and worship in my heart. I realized that the things we thought are hopeless can still be fixed if handed to the Master. The God that we are serving is expert in fixing broken things and turning hopeless people to a brand new creation. I know that God fixed me for a reason; He wants me to be used in His kingdom, so I have become God’s instrument playing notes and chords that tell a story that changes lives for His glory.
