“But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)
Who we are today is the sum total of our desires and decisions that we made and keep making. We make our decisions and our decisions make us. The greatest power that has been given into the hands of man is the power to make decisions for himself.
Luke 10:27 tells us “to love God with all of our soul, spirit, mind, and strength.” We cannot truly love God until we know Him. Loving God begins with a decision. It entails a purposeful setting of our affections. “Set your mind on things above, not on things below.” (Colossians 3:2)
Emotion alone does not create agape love but when we choose to love, emotion springs. Emotion must follow our decision once we have the right information. Do not allow our emotion alone in making decisions.
When Joshua made his choice of whom to serve, he decided not by emotion but by information according to his daily experiences with God. The God whom he served cannot be seen by physical eyes but his daily experiences proved that the God whom he focused on is surely true, alive and almighty. (Joshua 3, 4)
So to avoid frustration caused by wrong decisions, let us not base our decision on emotion alone. Let us sustain it with information according to the light of God’s Word.
