When David took refuge in the cave while running for his life, he became thirsty — longing for water from Bethlehem.
“So the three mighty men broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out before the LORD.” (2 Samuel 23:16 NIV)
Maybe some other men heard about David’s longing for water while in the cave but they did not respond, except for the three mighty men who would risk their lives to serve water to David. That showed their dedication to serve David.
Sometimes, our dedication to serve God is tested in the small things. It might just be an ordinary water for others. When you do your best to serve our King through the small things, your labor is not in vain. Water may represent your time, dedication, or promises to God. You may have neglected it through time. But know that God is looking for servants in our time that will serve Him ‘water’ — just as the three mighty men did to David.
Luke 16:10 NLT reminds us today:
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.”
Will you serve God water?
